The principals of Spire Development possess a combined 28-years of experience in the development and financing of real estate in the market rate, affordable, assisted living, and seniors housing sectors.  The principals have been involved in the acquisition, pre-development, and development of over 3,000 multifamily housing units and over $350 million of mixed-use real estate assets.  Furthermore, they have been involved in the underwriting, structuring, and advisory of real estate transactions totaling over $950 million.

Tom Grywalski

Tom Grywalski is co-founder and president of Spire Development.

Previously Tom worked for Lancaster Pollard, a mortgage banking and investment banking firm that specialized in providing financial solutions to the affordable housing and senior living sectors.  While at Lancaster Pollard, Tom developed expertise in underwriting bonds as well as originating and structuring USDA, Fannie Mae, and HUD/FHA-insured debt solutions.  Tom also possesses experience in sell-side advisory and direct investment transactions.  Prior to joining Lancaster Pollard, Tom worked as an analyst for a private equity firm focused on acquiring health care and distribution companies.

Tom served on active duty for six years as an infantry officer in the U.S. Army, where he earned the following qualifications: ranger tab, combat infantryman badge, expert infantryman badge, airborne wings, and air assault wings.  Tom is a combat veteran of the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq. 

Tom earned a master’s degree in business administration from The Ohio State University and a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the United States Military Academy at West Point.  He holds general securities representative licenses (Series 7, 63, and 79).

Scott Harrold

Scott Harrold is co-founder and executive vice president of Spire Development.

Previously, Scott was a development executive for Steiner + Associates, a national real estate developer and master planner that provides development, leasing, management, and third-party services. While at Steiner, Scott was part of the development team responsible for developing an award-winning $350 million, 1.3 million-square-foot mixed-use center in Cincinnati, Ohio, which included retail, multifamily, hotel, office, entertainment, and park space.

Prior to joining Steiner + Associates, Scott worked for Lancaster Pollard, a mortgage banking and investment banking firm that specialized in providing financial solutions to the affordable housing and senior living sectors.  While at Lancaster Pollard, Scott was responsible for all aspects of the structuring, underwriting, and closing processes.  Prior to joining Lancaster Pollard, Scott worked as a development manager for a regional market rate apartment developer.

Scott earned dual-master’s degrees in accountancy and city and regional planning from the Fisher College of Business and Knowlton School of Architecture at The Ohio State University.  Scott also earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from the University of Dayton, where he was awarded membership to the National Society of Collegiate Scholars. He is a Housing Credit Certified Professional through the National Association of Home Builders.

Michael Hanagan, JD, CPA

Michael Hanagan is vice president of finance with Spire Development.

Mike spent the last 10 years as a tax consultant with a large commercial and market rate developer.  Most recently in this role, Mike served as the leader of complex tax transaction planning and analysis.  Additionally, Mike worked cross functionally with accounting, legal, development, asset management, and executive leadership on a variety of significant operational and transactional matters.

Mike earned a bachelor’s degree in financial services from Wright State University and a law degree from the University of Dayton School of Law.  He is a licensed attorney and certified public accountant. 

Amanda Northrup

Amanda Northrup is vice president of asset management with Spire Development.

Previously Amanda worked as a regional manager for a full-service development and property management company specializing in affordable housing.  In this role, Amanda was responsible for all aspects of the day-to-day operations of a portfolio of rental communities, including capital improvements and inspection readiness and response.  Additionally, Amanda was responsible for the lease-up and stabilization of 13 affordable housing communities.  Prior to her experience in the affordable housing industry, Amanda worked for 10 years as the operations manager for a residential custom home builder.  

Amanda earned a bachelor’s degree in human services and communication from Ohio University.

Sean McMickle

Sean McMickle is a vice president of development with Spire Development.

Previously Sean worked in The Ohio State University Department of Athletics, serving as the head nutritionist for Ohio State’s football program for five seasons under head coach Urban Meyer.  While with Ohio State, Sean created nutritional programming procedures and established standards of practice to promote athletic performance and development. 

Sean earned a master’s degree in business administration from The Ohio State University and a bachelor’s degree in dietetics from The Ohio State University.

Ryan Laber, P.E.

Ryan Laber is a development associate with Spire Development.

Previously Ryan worked at Level Agency for Infrastructure, a boutique infrastructure planning and engineering consultancy in Brooklyn, New York. In this role, Ryan provided services in sustainable infrastructure planning, risk assessment, resiliency planning, project implementation advice, and public policy analysis and design. Prior to Level Agency for Infrastructure, Ryan worked as a project site civil engineer at Bayer Becker in Cincinnati, Ohio. While at Bayer Becker, Ryan served as a client-facing design engineer and project manager, where he collaborated with developers, design partners, and construction teams in support of multifamily and mixed-use real estate developments.

Ryan earned a bachelor’s degrees in civil engineering and city and regional planning from The Ohio State University and is a licensed professional engineer.

Carson Showe

Carson Showe is a development associate with Spire Development.

Previously Carson worked at The Urban Land Company, a real estate investment and development firm in Columbus, Ohio.  In this role, Carson provided asset management, underwriting, and closing services for multifamily acquisitions and refinances. Prior to this role, Carson worked at Vogt Strategic Insights, a national market research and appraisal group in Columbus, Ohio. While at Vogt Strategic Insights, Carson collected data for market research and project feasibility reports.

Carson earned a master’s degree in real estate development from Arizona State University and a bachelor’s degree in economics from The Ohio State University.

Simon Lowenstein

Simon Lowenstein is a development associate with Spire Development.

Previously, Simon was vice president of planning and development at Lowenstein Development, an affordable housing consulting firm in Columbus, Ohio. While at Lowenstein Development he assisted clients in obtaining funding in both the 9% and 4% programs in Ohio. His responsibilities included underwriting, site research, exhibit preparation, and the final assembly of project submissions. Prior to that, he interned with the Central Ohio Community Improvement Corporation (COCIC), where he worked in the development department. His focus included allocations and dislocations, GIS mapping, conducting property closings, and implementing COCIC’s various programs.

Simon earned a master’s degree in city and regional planning and his bachelor’s degree in psychology from The Ohio State University.

Mrunal Matadar

Mrunal Matadar is a development analyst with Spire Development.

While completing his undergraduate coursework, Mrunal was a development intern with Spire Development.  Prior to that, he was a project engineer co-op with a large commercial general contractor in Louisville, KY.  As a project engineer co-op, Mrunal worked on multifamily and healthcare projects, assisting with subcontractor coordination, quality control, submittal reviews, and other construction management procedures.

Mrunal earned a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from The Ohio State University.

Justin Schiessler

Justin Schiessler is a development analyst with Spire Development.

Previously Justin worked as a financial analyst for Greysteel, a middle market investment sales broker, as a member of the national affordable housing team. In this role, Justin analyzed existing multifamily properties participating in the LIHTC and USDA RD programs. 

Justin earned his bachelor's degrees in finance and business economics from Ohio University.
